Joint Research Office

Established in 2008, the Â鶹ÊÓƵ and University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust (UHL) Joint Research and Development Support Office is a partnership between the University and the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust supporting researchers in the development, implementation and delivery of world-class experimental, translational and clinical research.

The Research Governance Office (RGO) at the University forms part of the Research and Enterprise Division (RED). The Research and Innovation Office at UHL is a corporate function of the Trust. The functions of both offices are to support practical and regulatory research governance (both pre- and post-award functions) and business development across the organisations.

All health and social care research taking place within health and social care and/or involving NHS patients, their tissue or information (data) must have a sponsor. The sponsor is the individual, organisation or partnership that takes on overall responsibility for proportionate, effective arrangements being in place to set up, run and report a research project.

The sponsoring organisation is determined by where the Chief Investigator is substantively employed.

Â鶹ÊÓƵ Sponsorship

If the chief investigator has a substantive contract with the University, University Sponsorship will apply and the Research Governance Office should be consulted in the first instance.
