Student nurses shortlisted for prestigious awards

A group of student nurses has been shortlisted for some prestigious awards thanks to their dedication and commitment.
Lily Scott, Amy Walker, and Daud Malida are in the running for the across several categories.
Lily, 26, is hoping to clinch Student Nurse of the Year, while Amy and Daud, 23, are both up for Outstanding Contribution to Student Affairs. Daud has also been shortlisted for the Mary Seacole Award for Outstanding Contribution to Diversity and Inclusion.All three students are studying the four-year Nursing with Leadership MSci course at the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ. The course is also up for Best Student Experience for the Leicester model of Mental Health Simulation which was nominated for its positive impact on students, combining lived experience with reflective experiential learning.
Winners will be announced at a glittering ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on 2 May when the nursing and midwifery community will come together to shine a light on the brightest new talent in the profession.
Lily said: “I’m beyond honoured to be nominated for Student Children’s Nurse of the Year. Throughout my degree I’ve loved supporting children and families, applying my mental health knowledge to provide better care within the general nursing setting and advocating for students on placement.
“I’m especially proud of showing that it’s possible to achieve during a nursing degree while also being active in university sports as a student athlete.”
Daud said he was incredibly proud of his two nominations, adding: “Making meaningful impacts has always been at the heart of my work and I feel immense gratitude towards my family, friends, colleagues, community and patients who inspire me every day.”
Amy added: “I'm really honoured to have been nominated and shortlisted for this award. Having the support of my peers and mentors at the university has been a highlight of my time at Leicester, allowing me to pursue my passions of improving support for student nurses. Student voice is important, and I would encourage everyone to become part of the solutions they want to see.”

These nominations reflect not only their individual achievements but also the strength of our nursing program and the dedication of our teaching team in supporting the next generation of nurses.”
