Staff and students to climb Everest in Leicester
The Attenborough Tower, the tallest building on the Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s campus, stands at 52 metres high. Mount Everest is 171 times higher, at 8848 metres.
On Wednesday 6 May, between 9.30am and 3.30pm, students and staff will join to climb the 270 steps of the Attenborough Tower 171 times, meaning they will need to tackle 46,170 steps in order to reach their goal.
The fundraising event has been organised by the Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s Mountaineering Club and Dr Mary Ann Lund, of the University’s School of English in honour of those killed in tragedy, including Leicester student .
Congratulations to all of the volunteers who climbed the Attenborough Tower on Wednesday 6 May to raise money for the Nepal Earthquake Appeal. Together, over 170 staff and students, including President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Boyle, managed to ascend the tower 342 times - meaning they climbed the equivalent height of Mount Everest twice - raising over £4,000.
