Â鶹ÊÓƵ

The purpose of the JEP is to advance the exchange of culture, language and medical science education methodology, between China and the United Kingdom, promoting the development of education in both countries and facilitating academic collaboration between Chongqing Medical University and the Â鶹ÊÓƵ. 

The JEP focuses on introducing the educational resources and curriculum of the Â鶹ÊÓƵ in the area of Medical Science and adheres to the principle that Chinese-foreign joint education shall benefit the public interest.

The Chongqing Medical University - Â鶹ÊÓƵ Bachelor’s Programme of Clinical Medicine and Clinical Science is an exciting Dual Award programme, which aims to cultivate registered medical practitioners, equipped with a broad knowledge base in the fundamentals of clinical sciences and medicine, alongside practical skills, understanding and experience.

Award of degrees

In order to successfully graduate, students are required to meet the degree award standards of Chongqing Medical University and the Â鶹ÊÓƵ. Upon graduation, the successful students will be awarded a Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Medicine from CQMU and a Bachelor Degree in Clinical Sciences from UoL.

Curriculum

The academic courses are taught and assessed in English by academic staff from the UK and China, integrating an English Language course within the first year of each five-year degree. 

Clinical aspects of the curriculum will be taught and assessed in Chinese and English, within an appropriate Chinese Healthcare Environment. 

The programme will be delivered predominantly at Chongqing Medical University, taught collaboratively by both UoL ‘flying faculty’ from the College of Life Sciences and CQMU staff. In the fourth year, students will have the opportunity to study for a year in the UK at the Â鶹ÊÓƵ or can opt to remain at CQMU. 

The UoL undergraduate programme will provide students with the opportunity to study medical sciences alongside gaining a foundation in traditional laboratory and research skills. In addition to generic transferrable skills, and a strong foundation in the basic medical sciences, students will also complete foundation laboratory and research skills and develop these in year four by the completion of a group analytical research project. The CQMU Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Medicine adds direct clinical components to the dual award including education in clinical skills, diagnostic reasoning, clinical management and direct patient contact, in the appropriate Chinese health care environment, such that students will be enabled to successfully undertake the Chinese Medical Licensing Examination allowing them to practice medicine in China after graduation.
